Afternoon. The council has swapped the traffic figures in its Tolworth Close report, and the Ewell Road numbers in Tuesday's issue are gone from it. Hook Road is still shut, UKPN is holding a roadworks meeting, and a 93-year-old is in his 80th year at one table tennis club. Then Halloween, the fireworks forecast and next week.
On Wednesday the council revised the report and traffic annex for Tuesday's Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee meeting. The recommendation stands: make the closure at the Broadway end permanent, and add a single yellow line on Raeburn Avenue between number 52 and Ewell Road, 7 to 9am and 3 to 6pm on weekdays.
Tuesday's issue gave the first version's Ewell Road figures: 100 to 120 vehicles at peak before the trial, 246 to 257 in July. The revised report drops both. It says no pre-trial count exists for Ewell Road, and uses a November 2025 survey: 407 vehicles in the 8am peak, 416 in the 4pm peak and 4,233 between 7am and 7pm, heading west towards Tolworth Broadway. It still says peak flows nearly doubled, with no before figure.
It leans instead on Raeburn Avenue, south of Elgar Avenue, which carried 2,601 vehicles between 7am and 7pm in June 2024 and 2,493 in November 2025. Officers assume the drivers who used to cut through the Close now queue at the Ewell Road lights. TfL will review their timing from early January to late March.
Survey and objection counts stand. Raeburn Avenue sent the most objections of any street, 20, then Beresford Avenue with 10.
The committee meets on Tuesday 3 November at 7.30pm at Glenmore House, The Crescent. Anyone can ask a question in the first 30 minutes, and it is webcast.
Hook Road: TfL's feed, updated at 10.44 this morning, has the northbound side closed between Elm Road and Somerset Avenue for the burst main. The council's page, last updated Tuesday, gives Elm Road to Hunters Road and Thames Water's estimate of 3 November. Buses 71, 671, N65, 465 and K4 are diverted until 8pm on Friday 6 November.
From tomorrow Fairoak Lane in Chessington closes near the substation until 19 February. UKPN signals reach Ewell Road outside Mellish Court on Tuesday, and between Dysart School and Kingsdowne Road on Wednesday, both to 29 November. The Market Place works at Kingston Market should finish at 5pm on Monday.
Malcolm Rheinlander, 93, is in his 80th year at Surbiton Hill Methodist Table Tennis Club. He joined in 1946, aged 14, and has captained it since 1994. He is stepping down as captain but says he will keep visiting. The group now runs from their 20s to their 90s, and Wednesday is match night. The Surrey Comet piece gives no joining details; if you know them, reply.
