Morning, Surbiton. Quieter few days than usual on my end, so this one's got a bit stacked up: a local MP taking on the water industry, a straight answer on Berrylands station, and a correction on a reader tip that turned out half-right. Welcome too to everyone who's joined recently from Oakhill, St Andrews Square, Central Surbiton and — still the biggest group by far — Berrylands. Here's Tuesday.
Ed Davey takes on Thames Water
Our MP is pushing new PM Andy Burnham to overhaul the water industry, pointing to fresh figures showing Thames Water dumped sewage into local waterways for 143 hours across 18 separate spills last year. For the couple of you who asked about river news — this is the actual river story right now, and it's not a good one.
Berrylands station: the real date
Straight answer to the question a few of you asked: the station's been closed since Monday 11 May for a £6m platform rebuild. The original line was "reopening in August" — that's slipped, and the confirmed reopening is now late September. The rail-replacement bus keeps running New Malden–Surbiton every 30 minutes in the meantime.

Two sisters, one riverside loop, for a charity most of us haven't heard of
Freya (13) and Evie (10) Hennings, both junior squash players at Surbiton Racket & Fitness Club, have signed up for the Steps for Change Children's Challenge — a 5K/10K loop from Kingston Bridge to Hampton Court Palace and back, Sunday 20 September. They've each pledged £200 and are daring the rest of the club, and anyone else who'll listen, to match them. It's for Able Child, which supports children with disabilities in Africa.

Correction on Helen's Ditton Road tip. Helen wrote in about a cycle-lane closure at Ditton Road/Ewell Road — real, and it's a big one, but the council's own listing has it starting today, not the 27th as she'd heard. It's multi-way signals and footway closures at the Ditton Road, Hollyfield Road and Kingsdowne Road junctions with Ewell Road, running roughly six months to 25 January 2027. Her point about bus stops being suspended after the first three months isn't on the official listing yet — I can't confirm that part, so treat it as worth watching rather than settled.
- A3 at Tolworth: unchanged — one lane still closed, no access from Tolworth Junction onto the A3 southbound, TfL still saying 29 July.
- Bus 281: on diversion until 9pm Wed 29 July for the same works — can't serve Tolworth Station in either direction, or Tolworth Broadway northbound.
- Hook Road: the UK Power Networks cabling job is still due to finish tomorrow, 22 July — not cleared yet as I write this, so expect the lights another day at least.
- Berrylands Road, Pine Walk to Regent Road: still nowhere on the council's official list. Still there if you're driving through — I'll keep chasing an official line.
K1, K2, K3 and the 71: good service, nothing posted today. Hit something not listed here? Reply and I'll dig.

That's Tuesday. Thanks to Helen and Dawn for the tips — keep them coming, even the ones I end up correcting. That's how this gets more accurate, not less.
