Afternoon. New signals are due on Hook Road from Monday, the day Kingston Market is expected to start reopening. Then a boundary ruling, the weekend, next week and half-term.
UK Power Networks (UKPN) has permits for two-way signals on Hook Road near Rickards Close from 8am on Monday until 27 November, and for a lane closure south of the A3 from Thursday 22 October to 19 November. Helen says roadworks have appeared outside the Maypole again; the council's list already has UKPN's cabling on that stretch, from Upper Brighton Road to the Hook roundabout, to 27 November. TfL lists UKPN's restrictions at the Hook Rise junction to 24 October.
UKPN also has permits for two-way signals at two points on Ewell Road, to 20 and 28 November. If you've been held up at either, reply and say where.
Also: Tolworth Broadway loses a lane near the filling station on Friday 23 October, 10 to 3, while TfL fits traffic sensors. South Western Railway has no engineering works on the Surbiton, Chessington or Hampton Court lines this weekend or next week. Kingston Market is still expected to start reopening on Monday; traders who lost their stalls in the fire will take longer.
A Surbiton couple have lost their bid to have part of next door's kitchen extension removed. They said it sat 48cm over the boundary. The extension was built in the early 1980s, and a property tribunal ruled the neighbours had gained the strip by adverse possession, the legal term for long, unchallenged use.
Today: poetry at the cornerHOUSE, doors 7 for 7.30, £6 with a cheese buffet. Sunny intervals, 16.

In the evening, Kirris Riviere at the Lamb, Thames Concerts at St Andrew's (£22 on the door) and SEEGER, a solo show about Pete Seeger, at the cornerHOUSE (£20, or £5 if you're 25 or under), all at 7.30. Sunny, 14.
Sunday: Kingston Orchard Project's grow-your-own session at Knollmead allotments in Tolworth, 2 to 4, no experience needed. Joao Mello at the Lamb at 5. St Andrew's installs its new vicar at 6. Quizzes at the Elm Tree and the Antelope, both 7.30. Light showers, 14.
Monday: Bargain World is expected to open on Victoria Road. The cornerHOUSE has a free singalong, 2 to 3.30, especially for carers and the people they look after. Sunny intervals, 15.

Wednesday: the Mothers' Union hears about a trip to Durban at St Mark's, tea from 2, talk at 2.30, all welcome. Light showers, 15.
Thursday: the Kitchen Roots café serves lunch at the St Mary's Centre, Church Lane, Chessington, 12.45 to 2, pay what you can. Kingston Voluntary Action's pantry of cupboard essentials is at Surbiton Library, 2 to 5, or until supplies run out. Light showers, 14.
Friday 23 October: Whole Lotta Comedy at the cornerHOUSE at 8.
Half-term: Hollyfield and Surbiton High are off from Monday. Surbiton Hockey Club's camps run Monday to Thursday, 9 to 4, £64 a day or £32 a half-day. Chessington's Howl'o'ween is open 10 to 6, then 10 to 7 from Friday. Hampton Court's Halloween starts on Saturday 24 October, included in admission, and so does the libraries' half-term programme: Surbiton's nature crafts that morning, ages 3 to 8, still has places to book.
Coming up: the clocks go back at 2am on Sunday 25 October.
Have a good weekend.
