afternoon. The buses are off Surbiton Hill Road for a third day, and the fire brigade has logged a house fire on Maple Road from the same night. A plan for 15 flats at The Sanctuary on Oak Hill Grove is back, three months after the council refused 14. Then flu jabs, the roads and the week.
TfL's diversion of the 406, 418, K1 and K4 off Surbiton Hill Road was still running at noon today, with the Maplehurst Close and Hollyfield School stops closed, and TfL still says only that there is an emergency services incident. TfL logged the diversion at 11 minutes past midnight on Sunday.
The London Fire Brigade lists a house fire on Maple Road that night: the first of 19 calls came at 10.49pm on Saturday, six engines and around 40 firefighters attended, the roof of a semi-detached house was destroyed and about half of the roof next door was damaged. No injuries were reported, the fire was out by 1.34am, and the brigade believes an electrical fault caused it. It doesn't say where on Maple Road, and I can't find anything that links the fire to the diversion. If you live on either road and know what's going on, reply and tell me.
Ralebridge Financial Investments has applied again to turn The Sanctuary, the locally listed Victorian villa at 23 Oak Hill Grove that is used as offices, into flats: 15 this time. Thanks to Peter for spotting it. The council refused the previous version, for 14 flats, on 23 June, because some of the flats fell short of the national minimum floor areas and the drawings didn't show the ceiling heights. The applicant puts that down to a typo on the accommodation schedule and a lack of clarity on ceiling heights, and has resubmitted with what it calls minor amendments. On its new schedule, the large first-floor three-bed is split into a two-bed and a one-bed, and the two flats that were short now clear the minimum. The applicant says nothing changes on the outside, and all 15 would be market-sale flats.
It's a prior-approval application, so the council can only judge a short list of matters, such as space, daylight, flooding and transport, not the usual planning merits; the last one was refused by officers without going to a committee. Neighbours have until 28 October to comment on the council's planning portal (search for 26/02081/PAMA; you need to register to comment), and the council has to decide by 24 November.
The autumn flu jab is free on the NHS if you're 65 or over (or will be by 31 March), 18 to 64 with certain long-term health conditions, pregnant, in a care home, the main carer for an older or disabled person, or living with someone whose immune system is weakened. The COVID jab is for anyone 75 or over (or 75 by 31 January), care-home residents, and anyone from six months to 74 whose immune system is weakened by a condition or treatment. Book in the NHS App, online or by calling 119, or walk in: the NHS finder lists five pharmacies taking flu walk-ins: Newman at Surbiton Health Centre, Shan at 106 Ewell Road, Ritechem at 22 Victoria Road, Pearcare at 86 Alexandra Drive in Berrylands and PSM at 388 Ewell Road in Tolworth (walk-ins are adults only at the last three; check opening times). Langley Medical Practice and Berrylands Surgery are inviting their own eligible patients for flu jabs. COVID jabs run to 31 January, flu to 31 March.
Hook Road: an emergency UK Power Networks lane closure northbound at Clayton Road until Thursday night, on top of the firm's long job between Upper Brighton Road and the Hook roundabout, which runs to 24 or 25 October.
Tolworth Rise South: one lane and temporary lights eastbound at Southwood Drive until Wednesday night, for emergency Thames Water and Virgin Media works.
Tonight: Full Council at the Guildhall, 7.30, webcast: a 1,241-signature petition against plastic in Kingston Cemetery, the motion to explore a dedicated roadworks-officer post, and the planning changes (officers already decide 98.75% of applications, the report says). Folk trio The Wilderness Yet at the cornerHOUSE, 7.45, £18. Sunny spells once the morning's rain clears, breezy, 21; clear and chilly overnight, with a chance of mist by dawn.
Wednesday: Page to Stage at the cornerHOUSE, new plays read script in hand, 7.30, £10 to £12, and again on Thursday. Regency dancing with Mrs Bennet's Ballroom at St Mark's hall, 8 to 10, £6. A bright, chilly start, dry all day with light winds, 19.
Thursday: the weekly community pantry at Surbiton Library, 2 to 5 or until the shelves empty, free. Elsie Franklin at the Lamb, 8, free. Cloudy and mild, 21, with rain arriving overnight.
Friday: Hollyfield and Surbiton High break up for two weeks. Poetry at the cornerHOUSE, doors 7 for 7.30, £6 with a cheese buffet. Sunny spells and perhaps a shower, 15. The weekend looks mainly dry and bright, 14.
Back tomorrow.
