Afternoon. Monday's Portsmouth Road closure is off. And Lorraine asked what's opening to replace the shops that have shut, so I went through the council's planning and licensing registers and the food hygiene register to find out.

Portsmouth Road: off, for now

Anna was right. The council's roadworks list, updated yesterday, no longer has the SGN closure between The Mall and Simpsons Way that was due to start on Monday. No new date has been published.

What's opening

The Fox, Portsmouth Road. Ahead of its November relaunch, the pub has applied for new illuminated signs, eight floodlights and a brass lantern, and to repaint the outside in RAL 3007, a red so dark it's nearly black, with a mural on the side wall. Both applications are still waiting for a decision.

Signature at Surbiton, 187 Ewell Road. The care home built on the old office site is now on the food register and is due to open this month.

Ewell Road. Two new food registrations: Chennai Dosa at 282 Ewell Road, under a new registration (its old one has been removed), and China Garden Express at 292. Both are waiting for a first inspection.

334 Hook Rise North. Everyday Fresh Spot (coffee, breakfast, lunch and pizza) is registered and waiting for a first inspection.

10 St James' Road. A shop sign was approved on 23 September for the ground floor, which already has permission to be a nail bar.

Surbiton station. The refurbishment of the Downside booking hall has listed building consent. A follow-up application, not yet decided, covers “a new approach to the book stall and tobacconist stand”.

Corinthian-Casuals' ground, Tolworth. Granted on 7 September: a nine-a-side artificial pitch and four padel courts behind the main pitch, with floodlights, for use all year.

Bamanoosh, 163 Ewell Road. The Persian grill has applied for a licence to serve alcohol, noon to 11pm. Comments to the council by 28 October.

Still empty: the old Poundland at 73 Victoria Road, shut since 9 August. I found nothing filed with the council for it since. If you know what's going in, or what you'd want there, reply.

The hygiene numbers

Surbiton's KT5 and KT6 postcodes have 374 food businesses on the Food Standards Agency register. Of the 341 that have been rated, 237 (70%) hold the top score of 5, a little under the Kingston average of 73%. But only four are rated 2 or below, about 1%, against nearly 4% across the borough. None is rated 0. Madame Vy, the Vietnamese restaurant that replaced Delhi by Nature on Brighton Road, got a 3 (“generally satisfactory”) at its first inspection on 10 August, a fortnight after opening. Anywhere you eat can be looked up at ratings.food.gov.uk.

The rest of the weekend

Tonight: The Forty Fives at the Flyer from nine, free. The Soot Bunker at the cornerHOUSE, half seven. TwoManTing at the Lamb from half seven. Dry, about 19 this evening.

Sunday: junior parkrun at Alexandra Rec at nine. Long Ditton litter pick, 10 to 11, from the big tree next to Anny's on Fleece Road. Free history walk from the station forecourt at 11. Reading trains still call at Surbiton, and Teddington to Shepperton is shut all day. Sunny, about 23.

Monday: singalong at the cornerHOUSE, 2 to 3.30, free. Jazz jam at the Elm Tree, half seven. Sunny, 23.

Tuesday: meet your local police officers at Surbiton Library, 2 to 3. Free indoor bowls at King George's Field, 6 to 7. Corinthian-Casuals v Hackney Wick, London Senior Cup, 7.45. Agatha Christie and true crime at the cornerHOUSE, talk at half seven. Showers possible later.

Wednesday: Lamberts Road shuts until 13 November and the K4 is diverted from 7am.

Back Monday.
