Morning. A reader has heard Monday's Portsmouth Road closure is off, the Fox has shut until November, and Hook Road is down to one lane at the Ace of Spades.

Portsmouth Road, Monday

Anna says the council has postponed the SGN closure on Portsmouth Road between The Mall and Simpsons Way. Nothing published says so yet: the council's roadworks list, last updated 18 September, still shows it shut round the clock from Monday to 19 November. If you pass on Monday, reply and tell me whether the barriers are up.

The Fox, back in November

The pub on Portsmouth Road that won its licence change last week closed on Monday for eight weeks and a £332,000 refit, Kingston Nub News reports. The new licensees, Paul Reynolds and William Walters, working with Star Pubs, reopen it in early November as The Surbiton Fox, with pizza from their own Adonis Dough. Walters runs Pitch-up Pizzas, which you may know from the Surbiton Food Festival. Fifteen jobs come with it.

Hook Road at the Ace of Spades

Stewart reports cones on the Ace of Spades roundabout and every approach, single lane all round. It's UK Power Networks' Chessington to Kingston cable project, and TfL has the work there running to 24 October. TfL has closed the Southborough High School stops on Hook Road in both directions until 5pm Sunday, which hits the 71, 465, 671, K1, K4 and N65. Use the next stop along.

Post Offices

The counter in Morrisons Daily on Victoria Road closes at 4pm tomorrow. The Post Office's own letter points people to the branch at 104 Alexandra Drive, open 8 to 8 Monday to Saturday and 9 to 6 on Sunday, or the Budgens in Thames Ditton. Stewart adds the one in the Tesco Express at 381–385 Hook Road, open until half twelve on Saturdays.

Planning and the planter

Refused on Wednesday: a loft conversion with a front dormer at 16A Seething Wells Lane. Granted the same day: prior approval to turn the ground-floor commercial unit at 342 Hook Rise North into a one-bed flat. An application to turn A V House, further along at 326, from offices into homes is open for comments until 15 October.

The Tolworth Close planter survey closed on Thursday. The Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee is due to decide on 3 November whether the road closure stays.

For the diary

Surbiton's Christmas event is on Thursday 3 December on the station forecourt, run by the Surbiton Town Centre Partnership and The Community Brain. Shops are wanted for a reindeer window trail.
