Afternoon. Berrylands has its trains back. The Post Office on Victoria Road has six days left, and UK Power Networks is taking questions tonight and on Thursday. Also the Fox, a word from the festival, and the week.
Trains are stopping at Berrylands again this morning, from both platforms, every half hour each way: Hampton Court trains on platform 2, Waterloo on platform 1, both running on time at half ten. If you used it today, reply and tell me what it is like. The contractors stay on site until November.
The counter in Morrisons Daily on Victoria Road closes at 4pm on Saturday. No replacement has been named. The Post Office's letter points to two branches instead: 104 Alexandra Drive in Berrylands, open 8 to 8 Monday to Saturday and 9 to 6 on Sunday, and the Budgens on Thames Ditton High Street, open 9 to 5 on weekdays and 9 to 1 on Saturday.
For parcels only, Highlife on St Mark's Hill takes drop-offs and collections. Ask at the till which carriers it handles. Ed Davey asked in August for the counter to stay open until the New Year. The closing date has not moved.
UK Power Networks has two drop-ins on the Chessington to Kingston cable, both from 6 to 8. Tonight's is at St Paul's Parish Hall, 224 Hook Road, and Thursday's is at Surbiton Hill Methodist Church, 39 Ewell Road. From today you can get onto the Hook roundabout from Hook Road southbound again, because the work outside the Shell garage was due to finish today.
Next up: from Friday there are multi-way lights on Villiers Avenue outside 84 to 90, until 4 November. Lamberts Road shuts at the works opposite Villiers Path from 7 October, with a diversion by Surbiton Hill Road and Cranes Park. Then Ewell Road gets two sites: by Mellish Court from 10 October to 20 November, and outside 198 to 200 from 14 October to 28 November.
The council's licensing hearing last Tuesday approved plans for the Fox and Hounds at 60 Portsmouth Road. Kingston Nub News reports new operators, a £350,000 refit, a new name, the Surbiton Fox, and a reopening in November. The licence now covers the car park and the outbuildings too.
Caz was on Victoria Road on Saturday and loved it: the sunshine, the local acts on the stages, and the town at its best. She was surprised a festival that size runs on volunteers without council money. Her suggestion for who backs it next year is the pubs that took the footfall and the estate agents who sell the street. If you were there, the reply button still works.
Tonight: the UKPN drop-in on Hook Road, above. Quiz at the Waggon and Horses at eight, £2, teams of four to six. 20 degrees and mostly dry.
Tuesday: Helen's Empty Chairs at The Berrylands on Chiltern Drive, 7 to 9. It's a table with spare chairs for anyone who wants company; look for the orange tops. Free indoor bowls with coaching at King George Field on Jubilee Way, 6 to 7. Quiz at the Black Lion. Warm, up to 26 degrees, with showers possible.
Wednesday: quiz at the Victoria on Victoria Road, half seven, £2.50. Take a coat, because rain is all but certain.
Thursday: Celebrate Surbiton is still on, with the council listing the station forecourt from 4.30 to 8 on Thursday and again on the 8th. It's the last day to give the council your view on the Tolworth Close planter at kingstonletstalk.co.uk; the neighbourhood committee decides on 3 November. The UKPN drop-in on Ewell Road, above. 18 degrees.
Friday: the Villiers Avenue lights go up. Dry, 20 degrees.
Weekend: the Post Office shuts at 4pm on Saturday. Live music at the Flyer from nine. On Sunday, junior parkrun at Alexandra Rec at nine, and quizzes at the Elm Tree, the Antelope and the Prince of Wales in the evening. The farmers' market is not this Saturday; it is back on 17 October.
Back later in the week.
