Morning. Kingsdowne Road is shut and Ditton Road is half open — two of you had that before any official list did. The Festival parade has a start time at last. And nothing is replacing the post office.
Two of you wrote in yesterday and said the same thing. Kingsdowne Road is closed at the Ewell Road junction, both directions. Ditton Road has opened, but one way only — you can come out onto Ewell Road, you still cannot turn in.
That is exactly what the power company's letter said would happen on the 14th, and what I told you on Tuesday had not. It has now.
The council's roadworks list still carries Ditton, Hollyfield and Kingsdowne as one entry running to 25 January, with nothing about which of the three is shut this week. It was last updated on 11 September, five days before any of this. The national roadworks register publishes once a month and has nothing for September at all. This morning, readers are ahead of both.
One reader also passes on a warning about that junction: moped delivery riders and e-bikers mounting the pavement to get round the restriction, in among people on foot. If you have seen it too, reply and say so.
Elsewhere on the list: the emergency electricity repair on Villiers Avenue near Eversley Road finishes today, and Ewell Road keeps its two-way signals from St Marks Hill to near Hollyfield Road until 28 October.
Samina asked whether the Surbiton Festival is happening this year. It is: Saturday the 26th, 10 until 4, free.
And the parade has a time in writing at last: midday, from St Andrews Road. A reader told us it had always been noon, and the organisers' own page now says the same. I am not printing a route, because the only one I can find anywhere is from 2009.
Victoria Road and St Andrew's Road are closed to traffic for the day, with music in St Andrew's Square and children's activities in Claremont Gardens. Buses will be diverted, but nothing has been published yet about how.
Samina asked that too, and the short answer is that nothing has been announced.
The branch inside the Morrisons Daily on Victoria Road closes on Saturday 3 October at 4pm, because the shop is closing. Post Office Ltd says it is looking at options and may advertise the vacancy. Its letter also says that replacing a branch which closes this way is a commercial decision and will not go to public consultation — so there is nothing coming that you can have a say on.
The two it points people to are Alexandra Drive, KT5 9AG, open 8 until 8 Monday to Saturday and 9 until 6 on Sunday, and Thames Ditton, in the Budgens on the High Street. Some of the coverage has mentioned Hawks Road as well — that one is not in the official letter.
The Victoria Road diversion ends at 4pm on Monday. Until then the 71, 465, 671, K1, K3 and N65 are still going round by Brighton Road and Maple Road, and the K4 by Claremont Road as well.
This weekend the lines through New Malden are closed for maintenance. No Waterloo to Chessington South on either day. On Saturday, Dorking trains start from Worcester Park and Hampton Court trains start from Surbiton, so they do run — just not from town. On Sunday none of those three run at all. Replacement buses go from Clapham Junction.
And a correction, because some of you are planning around it. We said Berrylands reopens on Monday the 28th. That date came from a reader's app and I cannot stand it up. National Rail's engineering record now has the closure running to Wednesday 30 September, and Network Rail says only “late September”. No operator has published a first train. Don't book anything on the 28th yet.
Rain this morning, clearing through the middle of the day, up to 21°. It should be dry by half four, so the coat I told you to take to Celebrate Surbiton may not be needed after all.
Today: Celebrate Surbiton on the station forecourt, 4.30 to 8, free.
Friday: sketching with expert help at Dittons Library, 10am, £15 · jazz in the Rose café from 10.30, free · the Nepal flood relief dinner at Hollyfield School, 6.30.
Saturday: the Farmers' Market on Maple Road, 9 to 1 · a guided tour of Surbiton leaving the station, 11 · coffee morning for veterans at the Royal British Legion on Hollyfield Road, 11.30.
Sunday: Garden in the Square at St Andrew's Square, 10 to 1, free · the allotments at Knollmead in Tolworth, 2 to 4, free.
Back tomorrow.
