Morning. I got the buses wrong yesterday, so that comes first. Then Kingsdowne Road answered, no trains through New Malden this weekend, and rain arriving tomorrow afternoon.
Yesterday I said the 71, 465, 671, K4 and N65 had left Hook Road until the 24th, and told you to wait at Upper Brighton Road. That was wrong about the road, the routes and the dates.
The diversion is on Victoria Road, and it ends at 4pm on Monday the 21st. The 71, 465, 671, K1 and N65 are running both ways via Brighton Road and Maple Road, and so is the K3. The K4 goes via Brighton Road, Maple Road and Claremont Road. Stops between Victoria Road and Maple Road are not being served, and the K4 is not serving Victoria Road at all.
The cause is the raised table work at the Brighton Road junction — the same job that has Victoria Road itself shut there until Monday.
Hook Road does have works: UK Power Networks, multi-way signals and directional closures between Upper Brighton Road and the Hook roundabout, until 25 October. But no bus route has been moved off it.
Yesterday I asked whether Kingsdowne Road had actually closed at the Ewell Road end. Nobody has reported back yet, but the council's roadworks list, updated on 11 September, is clearer than the power company's letter was. Ditton, Hollyfield and Kingsdowne Roads are listed together: multi-way signals and closures at their junctions with Ewell Road, 21 July to 25 January, for the new cycle route. There is no separate 28 September end date for Kingsdowne on the council's list.
Also on that list: Ewell Road keeps two-way signals from St Marks Hill to near Hollyfield Road until 28 October, and the emergency high-voltage repair on Villiers Avenue, near the Eversley Road junction, finishes tomorrow.
South Western Railway is closing the New Malden area lines all weekend for maintenance. There is no Waterloo to Chessington South service on either day, and on Sunday no Waterloo to Dorking or Hampton Court either. Replacement buses run Clapham Junction to Chessington South via Wimbledon, and Clapham Junction to Surbiton, with a Clapham Junction to Hampton Court bus via Surbiton on Sunday. Berrylands is still shut, and its replacement buses fold into the weekend ones.
Dry, up to 19°, and breezy. Tomorrow is the wet one — all three forecast models agree on it, around a 70% chance of rain. If you are going to Celebrate Surbiton on the station forecourt tomorrow from 4.30, take a coat.
Today: a Parkinson's talk at Glenmore House, midday to 3 · Protecting and Restoring the Hogsmill River at Tiffin School, 7pm, free · a bat walk from St Andrew's Square, 7pm · Andrew Lownie on his biography of the former Prince Andrew, St Mary's, Long Ditton, 7.30, £10.
Friday: sketching with expert help at Dittons Library, 10am, £15 · the Nepal flood relief dinner at Hollyfield School, 6.30.
Sunday: the Kingston Orchard Project is at Knollmead Allotments in Tolworth, 2 to 4, free — tidying the site, caring for the trees, and learning to grow food.
On the Rose Walk lane: a reader who is now 70 says they were told off for going down the back of it as a child, roughly once a week, because it was private even then.
Back tomorrow.
