Morning. Victoria Road shuts at Brighton Road on Monday and stays shut for a week. Also: what the court actually ordered at Seething Wells, a fete on Saturday, and — at last — the Kingston FC score.
Kingston's roadworks list has it plainly: Victoria Road closed at the junction with Brighton Road, 14 to 21 September, twenty-four hours a day. The reason given is “raised table works”.
Stewart wrote in remembering that junction being dug up before, for a raised crossing and new kerbing, and asked whether they are taking it out or having another go. His memory is right — the ramp went in during spring last year, work starting 17 March 2025 and the road reopening on 7 April. What the council's list does not say is whether next week is new work, maintenance on that ramp, or its removal. I have asked.
Des wrote that the developers were fined a daily rate for failing to paint the railings, and never paid it. The record says something different.
Kingston served a Section 215 notice in December 2021 requiring the railings, the wall and the site to be maintained. Cascina Limited appealed. It ended at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court with an order, agreed by both sides, that the work be done and that Cascina pay £12,000 towards the council's legal costs. So: no daily fine, and the £12,000 was costs rather than a penalty for the paint. If the work is not carried out, prosecution is the next step.
Hook Road. Stewart also photographed a notice that went up on Thursday at the Thornhill Road bus stops, between the Maypole and the Ace roundabout. The public notice portal carries a Hook Road entry for high-voltage cable ducting, phased between 1 June and 1 December. That may or may not be the same job. If you pass the board, tell me what it actually says.
Berrylands. Still no trains calling. Platform renewal is expected to finish by the end of September.
Trains — a week tomorrow, not this one. On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 the lines through New Malden close all weekend. Waterloo to Chessington South will not run at all; buses replace it from Clapham Junction.
Tomorrow night. The Hampton Court level crossing at Summer Road is shut 10pm Saturday to 7am Sunday. It is a Network Rail permit and it sits on no council website, because Kingston is not the authority for it.

Three times I asked for the score in Kingston FC's first league game. Simon and Aaron answered within two minutes of each other: 3–3. Simon also turned up the club's official site, which lives on Pitchero.
Alexandra remembers a consultation about building flats on the station car park, with the old ticket office at the back becoming a café. I could not find it. What I did find: the council's own policy for the station site expects at least two hundred long-stay spaces to go if it is redeveloped, and there is a live proposal for 39 to 42 Victoria Road. If you kept anything from that consultation, send it over.
Alistair has joined us from Berrylands and wants roadworks and buses. Noted.
Back tomorrow.
