your town, every morning

I said Monday. Two things would not keep: the trains change tomorrow, and the committee that decides your roadworks meets Tuesday and will take questions from anyone who walks in.

Berrylands, four months on

Shut since 11 May. The 1930s timber platforms are gone, the new ones are in, and the lighting, cameras and shelters are going on now.

Nobody will give a reopening date. Network Rail, National Rail and South Western Railway all say the same two words, late September, and not one will name a day. I have seen 19 September quoted. It is in no official source, so do not book anything around it. Replacement buses still run every half hour from Surbiton Hill Park.

The meeting where you can actually ask

Roads are what most of you write to me about, and there is a committee that owns them. Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee, Tuesday, 7.30pm, Glenmore House on The Crescent KT6 4BN.

The first half hour is public questions. No notice, no registration, anyone can speak. If you have spent the summer sitting at the Ewell Road lights, that is the room.

It decides two planning applications that night. 65 Kingsmead Avenue in Tolworth, one house into two flats with the back garden split off, which drew nine objections from eight addresses and is why councillors rather than officers are deciding it. Also 42 Guilford Avenue, a house down for two semis.

It also hands out the money. On the list: £6,532 for two Christmas trees, one Surbiton, one Tolworth.

Registering to speak on the planning items closed at 10am yesterday. Public questions did not.

Roads, and the trains tomorrow

Claremont Road, with the dates right this time. On Thursday I said the council's two pages disagreed and to assume Thursday. The roadworks list is unambiguous: 7 to 10 September, nightly 8pm to 5am, resurfacing between Maple Road and Victoria Road. Four nights, Monday to Thursday, through the middle of the high street.

Lamberts Road is done as of yesterday. Enjoy it until 7 October. Victoria Road still shuts at the Brighton Road junction, round the clock, 14 to 21 September.

The Ace of Spades is bigger than I said on Thursday. From mid-month: lane closures on all four arms of the roundabout, Hook Road shut southbound, and right turns in and out of Kelvin Grove banned. UK Power Networks' page says the 14th and has it finishing 28 September. Transport for London's feed says the 15th and holds the roundabout restrictions to 24 October. Two different jobs, both live — plan for six weeks, not a fortnight.

And one nobody has published. Summer Road shuts at the Hampton Court level crossing from 10pm next Saturday to 7am Sunday. A granted Network Rail permit, on no council website — Kingston is not the authority for it.

Sunday the Ascot lines close all day, and it lands here: Hampton Court and Guildford-via-Cobham services start from Surbiton, with buses between Clapham Junction and Surbiton. Same next Saturday when New Malden closes, and on Sunday 13th the Hampton Court trains do not run at all.

Tonight, and tomorrow

Sanderson Scully, a country and acoustic-pop duo, at the Surbiton Flyer on Victoria Road, 9pm, free — that is the Partnership's listing, not the pub's, so ring 020 8399 8119 first. · Wrestling at Long Ditton Village Hall, doors 6.30, £20 on the door, £60 for a family of four.

Sunday, and one I did not know about. A free guided walking tour of Surbiton, 11am, two hours, meeting outside the station on the Victoria Road forecourt. Run by the Kingston tour guides, reserve a place on their site.

Next Saturday is the big one

Four things on 12 September, and they barely clash. Meet the Neighbours at St George's in Tolworth, noon to 4, free, with a BBQ and a bouncy castle. · The Seething Village Fete, St Andrew's Square, 1pm to 5, free. · St Matthew's opens for Heritage Open Day, 10 to 3, and the tower climb must be booked ahead, twelve and over.

Then the Halcyon String Quartet opens the Thames Concerts season, 7.30pm, £21.60, free under 16 or a student. That is St Andrew's Church on Maple Road — not St Andrew's Square, where the fete is. I nearly sent you to the wrong one.

Quickly

The Fox & Hounds mural now has a deadline: Thursday 24 September. The pub is locally listed and in a conservation area, which sets a higher bar for repainting the outside than anywhere else on that road.

Your police meetings, and why they keep vanishing. I had this wrong on Wednesday. Ward panels are not unpublished — each ward holds one four times a year, posted to Met Engage a fortnight or so ahead, and the listing disappears the moment the date passes. One is up: Tolworth, 22 September, 7pm, St George's on Hamilton Avenue. Register free for your ward at metengage.co.uk.

You lot

Madame Vy, Vietnamese, opened at 31–33 Brighton Road in July where Delhi by Nature was. It belonged on Thursday's list.

Two free things this week. A singalong at the cornerHOUSE on Monday, 2pm, song sheets and refreshments provided — they say it suits carers and the people they care for. And the community pantry at Surbiton Library on Thursday, 2 to 5, cupboard essentials while stocks last, donations by card only.

Natalija wrote in yesterday to ask what has happened to the foxes — three to five of them all summer, and none for weeks. I have an answer and it needs more room than today has. Monday.

Back Monday. Properly, this time.
